Personal Profile
Following a very successful 25 year career teaching in secondary education( including special education SEBD) I trained as a counsellor with Central School of Counselling and Therapy to diploma level from 1993 to 1995 then from 1996 to 1999 achieved a Masters Degree in SEN at Liverpool John Moores University. While still teaching I completed 5 years voluntary counselling at a Young Persons support project in an area of social deprivation counselling mainly young people and adults. Also 18 months on placement at a GP NHS surgery.
My ambition was to set up my own counselling project which I did very successfully way beyond initial expectations in 2001 and have been providing counselling and training services to the two largest education and care organisations in the NW of England. I have been a valued member of the Therapy team at one of those organisations since 2001.
From 2007 to 2009 I achieved coaching qualifications (Institute of leadership and management) at Liverpool International Coaching Academy in Personal performance coaching, executive and business coaching and accelerated learning coaching.
Currently am a supplier to a major university on their graduate mentoring programme and am a director of Avergo Ltd. which is a new and innovative project which I am driving towards e learning with another leading university, also on line coaching/training and much much more. My current major goal is to develop the Avergo project further so individuals, families and communities will benefit and make better lives for themselves.
Work Approach
My approach is primarily client centred and has been so due to the nature of the young people I work with but I also utilise solution focussed approaches, story telling, elements of CBT and more recently have integrated a coaching approach where appropriate. My desired oucomes from my therapy sessions is to empower clients to develop resilience in the present and develop hope for the future.
My mission is to reduce stress and maximise performance.
My highest value is my client's future success.
Words I would use to describe my personal values. Honesty and integrity, family, trust, empathy, compassion, choice, friends, health, perseverance, sharing, friends and relationships, helping, creativity and diligence, helping. Constant and never ending improvement in all that I do.
Following recent training I have developed an Anger Therapy programme and have begun to utilise it with clients. For the future I will develop the Avergo project and continue to work with individuals in a variety of environments using the skills and knowledge I have accumulated over a long and very successful career.
