Personal Profile
I have a lengthy background in nursing within the NHS. Chronic and terminal illness led to an interest in bereavement counselling and I undertook some training with my local hospice. From this foundation I pursued several years of counselling training within Reading College and Thames Valley University. My most recent qualification is a Post Graduate Diploma in Person Centred and Existential counselling which was completed in 2006.
I have worked as a counsellor within a GP practice and from a Women's Centre. I currently work part time in private practice and also give some hours each week to working voluntary for a local organisation offering counselling to women who have experienced domestic violence. In private practice much of my experience has been around relationship difficulties, low self-esteem and depression.
Work Approach
My approach is person centred. This means that my focus is on establishing a trusting relationship with the client which assists in creating an emotionally safe space for self examination and personal development. I approach each client with respect and without judgement offering unconditional support and empathy. I value the uniqueness and individuality that every human being embodies and believe that within each of us is the desire and the ability to grow beyond the difficulties and limitations that life and some relationships/experiences create within us.
