Personal Profile
My work has been predominantly in the caring profession from general nurse training to care of the elderly both in care homes and in private homes. I am a qualified counsellor and have worked with MIND and also as a member of a hospice bereavement support team. I have also provided a counselling service for carers in Cornwall. I worked as a volunteer for many years on a telephone emotional support helpline.
At present I volunteer as a part-time counsellor at a low-cost clinic as well as having a small private practice which I run from my home, as I am now semi-retired.
Work Approach
Although I qualified as a psychodynamic counsellor, I have also received training in person-centred and cognitive behavioural therapies. I also work with some transactional analysis and continue to study other theoretical approaches to 'talking therapies' as well as attending workshops and seminars.
I enjoy working in an integrative way and will use different resources depending on the need of my clients. My aim is to create a calm atmosphere in which the client can feel comfortable, begin to trust our relationship and feel at ease to open up
I am also able to work with spiritual issues as part of my holistic approach if this is what my client requests.
I am able to offer both short-term, [mimimum 4-6 weeks] and longer or open-ended therapy and aim to keep my costs at a reasonable rate.
