Personal Profile

I am a Chartered Psychologist with a teaching qualification and a Master's Degree in Psychology and a further Master's Degree in Educational Psychology. I am a registered member of the Health Professionals Council.

Now based in Bristol, I was a Principal Psychologist with Expert Assessments Limited at Harley Street in London. I undertake work nationally and abroad.

Educational/Cognitive Assessments
I work with children who have a wide variety of developmental and educational difficulties and frequently assess individuals with Asperger’s Syndrome and Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Dyspraxia, Dyslexia/Dyscalculia (specific learning difficulties), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), Social, Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties (SEBD), Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD) and Conduct Disorder inter alia, as well as children with physical disabilities. I also have experience of assessing children who have less familiar syndromes such as Angelman’s, Prader Willi and chromosomal abnormalities which give rise to learning and/or physical disabilities.

I regularly provide advice to the Tribunal in ‘Education Otherwise’ cases concerned with Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and Son Rise.

Previous experience
I held positions with Local Education Authorities as a teacher, head teacher and educational psychologist. I have also held positions with voluntary organisations. I was senior educational psychologist for the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham and educational psychologist/deputy head Teacher at the Whitefield School which is a large, generic special school maintained by the London Borough of Waltham Forest. I have worked within the broader field of special education for thirty five years in a variety of day and residential settings and have, in the main, worked with learning impaired, emotionally disturbed and physically handicapped children.
I have occupied the post of Head Teacher or Principal in three schools. I was Head of Meldreth Manor School, which is a large residential school serving children with cerebral palsy who have an additional intellectual impairment. I was Principal of Glen House Observation and Assessment Centre for delinquent and emotionally disturbed boys. Most recently, for eleven years, I was Head of Dyfatty School in Swansea, initially as a school for children with physical disabilities and more latterly a school for children with severe and complex learning difficulties. Following the closure through re-organisation of this school, I re-commenced my career as a consulting educational psychologist in private practice. My work has involved being a consulting psychologist for the Dyslexia Institute and I also serve a number of colleges and universities where I assess students who have specific learning difficulties, ADHD and Asperger's Syndrome.

I was head teacher of a very large SCOPE residential school for children with cerebral palsy and head teacher of a school for children with severe and complex learning difficuilties in Swansea. I was also principal of a regional observation and assessment centre in Hampshire. This served children with emotional and behavioural difficulties.

I have been on the management committee of an organisation that provides supported employment for people with learning difficulties. I am also a trustee of BUSK which is a charity that campaigns for safer transport for children. I worked with the then Department of Transport to make a training video for organisations that transport disabled children.

I am familiar with schools in the UK that are able to meet the needs of children with specific learning difficulties (Dyslexia/ Dyspraxia)
