Personal Profile
As a trained integtative therapeutic counsellor, I am able to apply different techniques to enable clients with various issues that brings them into counselling. For the last two years, I haved worked as a volunteer counsellor with an agency that works with women, children and young people who have or could still be experiencing domestic violence. This work includes on-going group supervision and individual supervision.
My interest in counselling was triggered by witnessing how counselling and clinical psychology helped my oldest child when he was critically ill couple of years ago. My interest is still in working not only with adults, but also young people who most of the time may find it difficult to express feelings let alone find the right words to describe it.
At present, I have a private practice, seeing clients one to one and hoping to run workshops on various emotional issues.
Work Approach
Though I work with different techiques/tools as and when needed, my theoretical base or approach is (Humanistic). This means creating the space for clients to be themselves without judgement, following clients agenda rather than mine and recognising and valuing what's real for them in the moment. I belive it's absolutely important to respect the client as an individual and have the belive that each person has inner resource that if tapped into can enable us to grow to full potential. To that end, I don't tell clients what to do or make decisions for clients, rather, stay with them wherever they are in their emotional journey and help to clarify things as best as I can.
The counselling relationship also allows clients to be free to ask for clarifications at any stage of therapy thereby giving them the control of their issues since we would work together as a team. We work with what ever feelings comes up during therapy and explore what ever comes up for the client. Counselling relationship is also strictly a professional relationship with boundaries to act as a safeguard for both the counsellor and the client. It's not a social relationship. Briefly, I work with anxiety, depression, trauma, childhood trauma, stress and life changing situations.
