I started my education in 1979 when I traveled to India to learn meditation. I was fascinated by the relationship between mind and emotions.
I then moved to California where I continued studying, taking courses in CBT, Psychodynamic therapy and Hypnotherapy. It was there that I began my work as a therapist. I eventually moved back to the UK, taking various courses in different aspects of psychology.
I have treated individuals with a range of problems including depression, anxiety, social phobia, anger difficulties, and bullying.
As well as my private practice, I have worked in a number of settings including drug rehabilitation, treatment for Carers and general agency work.
My Approach
When I work with clients, I am very aware that I may be the first person they are opening up to about their problems. With that, I appreciate how difficult that may be. My aim is to listen, without judging, and to help my clients feel 'understood'.
I try to see their problems from their perspective; to see the world from their viewpoint. I also work towards establishing a trusting relationship; without trust, it is difficult to open up and talk about painful issues.
My 30 years of training and experience working as a counsellor have given me a range of experience and techniques that I can draw on to best help my clients.
Some types of therapy take years or decades. I prefer to see real improvement in the short term. Most client experience clear, positive changes in their life, within the first month of therapy.
I will help you get to grips with problems in your life that have been causing you pain or holding you back. We wil understand their connection to the past, and look to imprvements in the future.

My experience of using CBT across a broad spectrum of psychological / emotional and stress related problems has given me the experience needed to deal effectively with differential diagnosis.
This enables me to create an individual treatment programme that provides effective treatment, and prevents relapse.

I ensure that my clients learn essential skills, such as relaxation, self-hypnosis and positive "self-talk". These essential skills are fundamental to well-being and self confidence.
My focus is on teaching skills to be able to deal positively with all situations in life. This empowerment lets people take control of their lives, and thinking and emotions.
Many people find learning self-hypnosis helpful.
I believe that therapy should involve the client receiving insights from the therapist. It should be about the client gaining personal control over their lives. Clinical research shows that giving patients and clients more control and choice leads to a stronger and more robust personal psychology.

CBT Therapy
CBT is goal-oriented therapy that will help you to make significant changes in your life - helping you overcome problems and create a feeling of wellbeing.
Most CBT treatment consists of 8-14 1 hour sessions.
These sessions are dedicated to helping you achieve your goals. I will listen to you. We will discover the cause of your issues whether from the past or present circumstances. Together we will work out the best way for to overcome these problems and start making improvements in your life.
CBT is an effective therapeutic approach used treatment of depression, shyness, anxiety and other issues. It is also effective in tackling eating and weight problems.
CBT helps you identify destructive thoughts which cause emotional distress - and realistic thoughts which enable you to enjoy life without unnecessary trauma.
