Personal Profile

I have been working as a psychotherapist and counsellor for the last ten years. In my experience as a psychotherapist in private practice I have worked with a wide range of people with a broad range of problems that include : depression, anxiety, stress, self-harm and concerns about work/life balance. Many people have benefited from the counselling and psychotherapy services that I provide based in Welling, near Bexleyheath. In addition, I see clients from the following areas : Bexley, Bexleyheath, Blackheath, Lewisham, Woolwich , Welling, Plumstead, Eltham, Sidcup and Shooters Hill.

My counselling experience began with the befriending and counselling work that I did at a hostel for the homeless and at Victim's Support.

During my time at Regent's College, I worked as a counsellor/psychotherapist with a broad range of people with mental health issues at an NHS Drop-In-Centre. I also worked at Mind during this time, working effectively on both a short and long term basis with people with a wide variety of needs. I continued to see several of my clients in a private capacity after my time at Mind had ended. I qualified with UkCP registration from the Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education in 2006.

For six months in 2007 I worked as a psychotherapist/counsellor with people suffering from substance abuse issues, at the Maudsley Addiction Clinical Psychology Services.

Work Approach

I believe that it is important to create a respectful relationship with my clients. This means that we will work together in a confidential, non-judgemental space that enbles you to express whatever is troubling you. From my experience this way of working, at your own pace, can help you to face your issues which can be the catalyst for positive changes in your life.

My work includes :

a) An exploration of how current problems may be connected to past relationships and events.

b) Exploring issues around anxiety. Helping clients to address the causes of their anxiety can improve their quality of life and their potential for change. Kevin Spacey's statement in American Beauty : " it's a great thing when you realise you still have the ability to surprise yourself ", clarifies an engagement with life where change is integral to health.

I work with individuals and couples as well as providing supervision to others practising in this field. Listening is integral to how I work which is part of a supportive relationship that gives you the opportunity to be heard and feel valued. This encourages you to face your issues and to make positive changes in your life.

I have worked with many people who have had a wide range of problems that impair their ability to function effectively in the workplace. This work is short-term and focused on finding specific solutions to defined problems.

I am a recognised provider of counselling/psychotherapy services for a number of private health insurance companies. Over the last 6 years I have been able to help many people who hold such a policy.

I have provided counselling for people training to be counsellors/psychotherapists. The focus for this work has been their personal issues as well as help with the academic and placement requirements of their course. I have also supervised counselling students for many years.
