Background Information

Work Approach

My main therapeutic approach is Neuro Linguistic Psychotherapy & Counselling, which is a specialised form of Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), based on the idea that we “construct” our own reality.

NLPt therapist/counsellor works on the basis that each one of us builds our own unique “models” or “maps” of the world around us and, although such maps are genuine and real to us as individuals, no one’s “map” is fully able to represent the “real world”. Most elements of our “maps of the world” are useful and work well for us, but some of our beliefs and behaviour patterns get in the way of our own progress and can make us feel “stuck” or out of control. Neuro Linguistic Psychotherapy & Counselling draws on concepts from many areas of psychology and psychotherapy. It helps us to understand how and why we do what we do, and to change those behaviour and thinking patterns that are unhelpful. It also assists us to develop a greater sense of self-control, recognise our own best qualities, and use them well.

Other therapeutic approaches which I regularly use in my practice are EFT (Emotional Freedom Techniques), CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) and EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation & Reprocessing).
