Personal Profile
I am trained and qualified to Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling in Person-Centred/CBT theories.
I have worked voluntarily for Cruse Bereavement Care for 2.5 years, counselling clients aged 17-70 with a range of bereavement, grief and loss work.
I have recently started working voluntarily for CIC Agency in Nottingham counselling clients aged 18+ dealing with relationship issues, stress, anxiety and depression.
I also had a placement for one academic year at New College Nottingham as a College Counsellor, counselling students aged 17-40 dealing with course workloads, relationship/family issues, identity/cultural issues, stress, anxiety, depression, paranoia/OCD.
Work Approach
I work in the person-centred approach which views you as your own best authority on your own experience, giving you respect, understanding and genuineness, also using CBT/gestalt techniques for stuck/repetitive behaviour/thoughts/feelings.
In the person-centred approach, I accept you unconditionally and non-judgementally. You are free to explore all thoughts and feelings, positive or negative, in a safe environment. I understand that your thoughts, feelings, and meanings will be from your own perspective and I will perceive what the world is like from your shoes and show acceptance of the person you are, without judging you. This will allow you to develop and grow in your own way, to strengthen and expand your own identity, to become the person that you 'really' are, independent of the pressures of how others act or think in particular ways.
I can help to explore yourself, your feelings and value your personal responsibilities. I do not offer advice and diagnose your problems. I also work with CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) when looking at specific habits, patterns of thinking/behaviours. Additionally, I work with Gestalt therapy, which looks at your experiences in the present moment and look at adjustments that can be made as a result of your overall situation.
