Personal Profile
I have been counselling for over 15 years working with adults young people and children in Bedfordshire. I found my way into counselling through my work with young people on Merseyside as well as through having my own personal therapy Like me, most people I meet come to counselling to try and resolve some issue that is preventing them living a satisfying life. With that in mind I offer a counselling relationship that can help to unravel these difficulties, helping to see the issues more clearly and taking action to resolve them.
I am a qualified and experienced counsellor with a Diploma in Counselling from CSCT in London (1993) and have an MA in Counselling Research from the University of Hertfordshire (2001). I was awarded a Fellowship by the BACP in 2002 for my services to counselling and am a member of the BACP. In my practice in the centre of Bedford I offer counselling, consultative supervision and training. I have researched and published on counselling and anorexia as well as on other counselling training matters. Currently I am researching the area of childhood bereavement. I work with adults, young people and children and have experience working with Beds and Luton Fire and Rescue Service and Bedfordshire Police as well as within a number of schools in Bedfordshire.
£40 per counselling session and £45 per 1 hour supervision session. Concessions for students and those on a low income.
Counselling offered during the day, evenings and Saturdays (at no extra cost)
Work Approach
I have worked as a Person-Centred counsellor for most of my counselling career, yet acknowledge that due to my work as a University Lecturer and college Lecturer my ideas about the approach I work within have evolved into something I like to think is not 'more than' the person-centred approach but sits comfortably alongside it. I am influenced by existential ideas and ways of working with clients, seeing the relationship that we shape together in the consulting room as very important.
The foundations of my work are strongly rooted in a belief in the capacity people have for change and that with a respectful, empathic and congruent relationship change is possible. I offer this relationship with warmth as one human being to another and bound by an ethical way of working that ensures clients are safe in their work with me.
