Personal Profile
I am a BACP accredited integrative counselling and psychotherapy practitioner with an MSc in Counselling and Psychotherapy. Currently I work in private practice and for a staff counselling service. As well as working as a counsellor, I offer life coaching.
In my counselling experience, I have worked with individuals to address their anxiety, depression, and stress. I have had experience of working with people with amongst other issues: low self esteem, relationship difficulties, bereavement, difficulties in dealing with conflict, and redundancy etc.
I have been in the field of counselling and psychotherapy since 1985 when I worked for an alcohol and drug dependency unit. I have also worked for NCH (children and families), and The Royal College of Nursing as a staff counsellor and life coach.
I have managed counselling agencies including a Relate (relationship and marriage counselling) centre, and I have Lectured and been a course leader for counselling courses in a Further Education College.
Work Approach
I think that as human beings we are amazingly resourceful, but that at times we need someone impartial to assist us as we address a particularly troublesome episode in our lives. Counselling invloves you being in a professional relationship where you are free of judgement or the counsellor's opinions, but assisted to tap into your own wealth of experience and talents and to further develop these in order to deal with your current challenges.
In counselling you are more likely to feel respected and accepted as you are, and it works best when you discover that you are working collaboratively with your counsellor who seeks to listen carefully, empathise and develop an understanding of you which enhances your ability to succeed in embracing your current circumstances and find your way forwards.
