I have a special interest and experience with eating disorders/disordered eating, and especially Anorexia Nervosa. It was my own journey with Anorexia as a young ballet dancer/dancer that led me to train as a counsellor and dance therapist initially, following my own counseling journey and recovery. I saw the problem was vast in the dance world, and also in contemporoary western society in particular amongst non-dancers. During my journey to recovery, I wrote much..journals and poetry, as I was already an avid dancer, and I found dance helped my mood and expression..and yet at the same time I was caught in the trap of being thin for ballet etc. This led to my interest in dance therapy, and consequently my training and study.
I am also interested in depression and diagnosis beyond the generic DSM, along with the correlation with personality types, and am currently involved in research in this area.
I am currently studying a second degree in Psychology with a Post Graduate conversion, as well as study and training towards being a psychotherapist in a deeper way.
My approach is humanistic and integrative. I have interest and training in transpersonal aspects. I am experienced with working creatively in therapy...both in terms of creative medium and expression and creative change.
I am also a writer , and part of my writing is therapeutic articles that are published both on my website and therapy magazines.
I offer one to one counselling and dance therapy, as well as groups in creativiity, writing as therapy, dance therapy, and workshops for profesionals in working with creativity and such issues as disordered eating.
Work Approach
I am a BACP(British Asssociation of Counselling and Psychotherapy) member and abide by their code of ethics and practice. I am also a member of AHPB (Association of Humanistic Psychotherapy in Britain), and a CCC registered counsellor.
My approach is humanistic and integrative, which means I work with each person towards growth and change, and valuing each person as worthwhilen and capable of change, development and growth(humanistic), by incorporating more than one model / theory of psychotherapy(integrative). My main training is presently in the Person - Centred and humanistic theory of counselling.
