Personal Profile
I decided to train to be a counsellor after working for many years as an advisor at the Jobcentre helping people who had been out of work long term. They often had very personal issues to deal with as a result, i.e. self esteem and depression.
As part of my training, and over the last three years, I have worked at Sure Start or Action For Children, as it is now called as a Counsellor and Psychotherapist. Although this is mainly a Children's Centre, I see adults, families, couples, elderly people, young ones.
I also did volunteer work for about eighteen months at a local charity where I saw quite a few people with drug related issues.
I have been on several courses over the last three years to help widen my knowledge of related topics, i.e. Understanding Suicide, Self Harm, Bereavement, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Addicitions etc. and have attended workshops at York and Lancaster Universities.
Work Approach
My code of ethics is the BACP.
My theoretical approach is: Behavioural, Humanistic and Person Centred.
I have experience in: Anxiety, Bereavement, Depression, Disability, General Counselling, Mental Health Issues, Post Traumatic Stress, and Stress.
I work on long term, short term, face to face or offer telephone counselling.
After an initial consultation, a person to person contract with an individually suitable term would be set up as agreed with the client.
